2020-24 CHEVROLET SILVERADO/GMC SIERRA HD PICKUPS

Vehicles Affected: GM is recalling approximately 323,200 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra HD pickups. Affected trucks include model-year 2020-24 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 equipped with power-locking tailgates.

The Problem: The tailgate’s electronic gate-release switch may short circuit, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in Park. In addition, an unlatched tailgate runs the risk of opening while driving, thereby resulting in the possible loss of unsecured cargo and a road hazard.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies as necessary and for free; however, owners are advised to check if the tailgate is closed and latched before driving until the repair is performed. Parent company GM will notify owners on March 18.

HONDA RECALLS 750,000 VEHICLES

Vehicles Affected: Honda is recalling approximately 750,000 vehicles, including the 2020 Honda Civic coupes and Fit hatchbacks, plus Acura MDX SUVs; 2020-21 Honda CR-V/CR-V Hybrid/Passport SUVs, Ridgelines and Accord hybrid sedans, as well as Acura TLX sedans; 2020-22 Honda Pilots, HR-V SUVs, Accords, Civic sedans, Odyssey minivans and Acura RDX SUVs; 2021 Honda Civic Type R hatchbacks and Insight sedans; 2021-22 Honda Civic hatchbacks; and 2022 Acura MDX SUVs.

The Problem: The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, thereby failing to suppress the airbag as intended and unintentionally deploying.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors as necessary for free. Honda will notify owners on March 18.

TESLA RECALLS ANOTHER 2.2 MILLION VEHICLES

Vehicles Affected: In late 2023, Tesla recalled more than 2 million vehicles due to a malfunction associated with its Autopilot feature and door locks. Soon thereafter, the automaker summoned an additional 200,000 vehicles for faulty back-up cameras. Now, another 2.2 million vehicles are on notice, including model-year 2024 Cybertrucks, 2017-23 Model 3 sedans, 2012-23 Model S sedans, 2016-24 Model X SUVs and 2019-24 Model Y SUVs.

The Problem: Instrument panel font sizes are considered too small for the brake. Park and antilock brake system warning lights can make crucial safety information difficult to read, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: In late January, Tesla released a free over-the-air software update for some affected vehicles. The remaining vehicles were to receive an update in early February. Tesla will notify owners on March 30.

2022-24 KIA CARNIVAL & 2023-24 SPORTAGE

Vehicles Affected: Kia is recalling approximately 100,000 model-year 2022-24 Carnival minivans and 2023-24 Sportage SUVs.

The Problem: The cause of the potentially detachable roof moldings is either interference from the roof molding retaining clip(s) with excessive roof panel sealer or improper installation at vehicle assembly.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the roof molding and replace or secure it as necessary for free. Kia will begin sending owner notification letters on March 15.

2016-18 FORD FOCUS & 2018-22 ECOSPORT

Vehicles Affected: Ford is recalling approximately 139,700 model-year 2016-18 Focus cars and 2018-22 EcoSport SUVs.

The Problem: The oil pump drive belt or drive belt tensioner may fail, thereby resulting in a loss of engine oil pressure. As such, drivers can experience an engine stall or loss of power braking assistance, which can increase the risk of crash and injury.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the oil pump tensioner assembly and oil pump drive belt as necessary free of charge. The automaker will notify owners on Feb. 13.
