General Motors Ends Smart Driver Program

Kelley Blue Book reports that GM has ended its data collection tools after reports automakers were collecting data for insurance companies without driver knowledge.

GM’s Smart Driver program was responsible for collecting driver data, which would then be sold to third parties and insurance companies. GM is not the only company sharing data with insurance companies and third parties but it has announced future steps to protect the privacy of drivers and vehicle owners.

The manufacturer also terminated partnerships with data sharing brands LexisNexis and Verisk.
