Parnelli Jones Passes Away

The well-known racer competed in various forms of motorsports throughout his storied career...

A new report from the New York Times states that American racing driver Parnelli Jones has died. Jones was known for competing in many facets of American motorsports including IndyCar, NASCAR, Baja and Pikes Peak. 

Jones won IndyCar events six times, four NASCAR events, and was beloved within the racing community. Mario Andretti once stated that “Parnelli was the greatest driver of his era… with an aggressiveness and finesse that no-one else possessed.”

Jones reportedly sold a horse at age 16 to buy his first hot rod and began his racing career at age 17 in 1950. After retiring from competition, Jones operated chains of tire and auto part dealerships. He is survived by his wife, his son P.J. and six grandchildren.
