A new report from Motor 1 states that the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) has proposed a new crash safety standard to help combat rising pedestrian fatalities.

Over the past 20 years as vehicle sizes have grown, so have pedestrian fatalities, with rates up nearly 33% over the past 20 years according to Motor 1.

The 238-page document outlines new guidelines and recommendations to help combat pedestrian impacts with vehicles. Essentially, new vehicles would need to find better ways to lessen pedestrian injurys with new hood and fender structures and designs.

The new proposed rules are currently in the consideration phase and currently open to public comments. Read the full report from Motor 1 here.
