Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance to Present Special Seminar on Vintage Racecars

The 66th Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance will present a special educational seminar that will highlight four historically significant vintage race cars, event organizers announced.

The Concours will take place on June 26 at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Burlingame. It will culminate a weekend that will start on Friday with a “Start Your Engines” kick-off party, followed by the 21st annual Hillsborough Tour d’Elegance road rally.

Named after the private vintage car club that is housed in a former Packard dealership containing a collection of historic road and race cars, the “Candy Store Racers” display and seminar will take a special look at four hand-picked race cars that represent disparate, yet significant periods in motorsports history, event organizers said. These include:

  • 1926 Bugatti Type 39A. One of five built, it was first owned by Sir Malcolm Campbell, who raced it in the 1926 British Grand Prix at Brooklands. In later years, it competed in North American events, including historic races at Laguna Seca, Sears Point and Lime Rock.
  • 1954 Jaguar XK120, which, following a comprehensive restoration, participated in many CSRG events at Laguna Seca and Sears Point, as well as the California Mille.
  • 1948 Nardi Corsa Barchetta, one of only three built, it competed in the 1948-49 Mille Miglia and Targa Florio, using an Alfa-Romeo 6C 2500 six-cylinder, twin-cam, dry-sump engine producing 145 bhp, wrapped in an aluminum, handcrafted Corsa-Barchetta body—Barchetta: ‘little boat’ in Italian.
  • 1954 La Carrera Panamericana Chrysler New Yorker, which in 1950 participated in the 2,600-Km event. The Chrysler ran five consecutive days in nine legs from Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala at Tuxtla Gutierrez, in the State of Chiapas, to Ciudad Juarez, adjacent to El Paso, Texas, in the State of Chihuahua.

“Candy Store Racers” is the latest addition to the 2022 Hillsborough Concours schedule, which will include special displays such as: Shocking Classics Through 1987, Modified European Sports Cars Through 1987, Important Bay Area Cars Through 1987, Non Ferrari, Ferrari-Powered Cars, Yellow Cars, Shelby 60th Anniversary and Cars of Route 66. In total, the Concours will also feature more than 20 judged classes of “Automobiles of Distinction.”
