A new report from Autoblog notes the Dodge HurriCrate engine line is beginning to hit the market. Dodge first announced the HurriCrate lineup in November 2022.
The engine naming scheme follows hurricane classifications, with the first, the Cat 1 available now. The aluminum block features aluminum pistons with twin-cam heads, liquid-cooled exhaust manifolds and intercooler. The Cat 1 produces 420 hp and 468 lb-ft. of torque with 22 psi of boost and a 10.4:1 compression ratio.
The next step, Cat 3 HurriCrate offers forged aluminum pistons and rings, with additional cooling and fuel flow capabilities. The Cat 3 also lowers compression and raises boost to offer 550 hp and 531 lb-ft.
Pricing for the Cat 1 starts at $7,995 for the long block with the full crate rounding out at $10,495. The Cat 3 long block starts at $11,715 and the full crate is priced at $13,745. Dodge plans to release the Cat X track-only engine in the coming months.
Dodge has also announced the release of two transmission applications to fit the HurriCrate engines, but sources have yet to see any listings on Dodge’s Direct Connection website. The brand has also listed plans for a range of Helliphant engines. So far, only the C170 has been officially released, offering a 7.0L V8 engine with cast iron long block and 3.0L supercharger.
