Utah Motorsports Campus Reopens as West Desert Motorsports Center

Twenty years after the track first opened, West Desert includes road course & karting tracks, an off-road facility & more…

Under the new ownership of Utah-based PV3 Enterprises, the former Utah Motorsports Campus is reopening as West Desert. The 511-acre campus is once again locally owned and undergoing a transformation to establish the site as a national center for motorsports excellence.

Just 30 minutes from Salt Lake City, West Desert includes one of the country’s longest front straights (0.7 miles) and safest road courses (4.5 miles), a competitive karting track (0.9 miles), off-road facilities, a skidpad, event spaces, grandstands and other racing amenities.

“This place has been through a few laps over the years,” said Mark Hancock, managing partner of PV3 Enterprises. “While we celebrate 20 years from the original opening of the Miller Motorsports Park, we also celebrate the final lap as Utah Motorsports Campus. Today, we begin a new lap of this iconic racetrack and venue as West Desert.”

To date, PV3 Enterprises has invested more than $50 million since taking over the facility earlier this year, with improvements throughout the property, said Joe Atkin, general manager of West Desert.

“With plans for additional significant investment in the years ahead, there is a clear commitment to elevating West Desert as a nationally recognized motorsports center of excellence engineered around innovation, performance and community,” he adds.west desert car on road course with sand hills in background

Year-Round Destination

West Desert’s transformation will create a year-round destination for motorsports, entertainment, innovation, driver development and family experiences, according to officials. Plans include improvements to the existing grand prix track, paddock, garages and grandstands to attract the world’s biggest racing franchises, along with developments to add residential, commercial and retail offerings that contribute to a dynamic motorsports community surrounding the track.

“West Desert has a special place in our state’s history. The Miller family’s vision and investment created a world-class facility that has brought people together through motorsports and recreation for two decades,” said Utah Gov. Spencer Cox. “Its return to local ownership is worth celebrating. Utahns are honoring what was built here and investing in new opportunities for the next generation.”

Hancock said the aim is to make West Desert a national motorsports center of excellence where the next generation of drivers, engineers and innovators develop their talents.

“Whether you live down the road, along the Wasatch Front or halfway across the world, our goal is to build a destination that gives you a reason to come here and more reasons to come back,” he said.
