According to a new report from Autoweek, longtime American racing driver Augie Pabst passed away on Oct. 9, at the age of 90. Pabst began his automotive career with the opening of Pabst Motors, which he leveraged into a career as a driver.
Pabst began racing in 1956 and drove AC, Ferrari and Maserati models throughout his career. He was celebrated for driving in some of the most renowned race cars of the era including the Ford GT40, Lolas and, Chaparrals. He drove for Caroll Shelby, NART-Ferrari and won the first Road America 500.
Pabst drove as a professional driver through 1963, but even in his older age he continued to race, competing in vintage races in his personal Scarab through the 1980s. He was commended for his dedication to racing throughout his entire life, according to Autoweek.
Augie Pabst III, Augie’s son upholds the Pabst Racing team which continues to compete today. Most recently the team won the 2024 USF2000 Championship with Max Garcia behind the wheel.
Pabst is survived by his wife, Joanie, four children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
