Land-Speed Racer George Poteet Passes Away

Car & Driver reports that longtime custom car builder and land-speed racing legend George Poteet has passed away at the age of 75. As a custom car builder, Poteet won numerous awards including America’s Most Beautiful Roadster, and the Don Ridler Memorial Award. 

Poteet was most known for the “Speed Demon,” which was an 11-time winner of the Hot Rod Trophy, awarded at the yearly SCTA Speed Week. Throughout his life Poteet ran over 400 mph more than 50 times and set numerous Bonneville records.
