A Closer Look at Road Armor’s New Bumper for the Jeep JL

Road Armor went through an extensive process to find the most requested and wished-for aspects of aftermarket bumpers for the Jeep JL. The No. 1 thing we heard consistently from consumers was the need to have their own personal styles represented within the products. With that in mind, Road Armor’s engineering team engaged in multiple rounds of product designs with user testing, surveys, and evaluation by industry experts.

In terms of the design of the new JL Stealth series, the most challenging accessory for our engineering team was the mid-width bumper and skid plates. The challenge lies in the need for the winch plate needing to be confined in a small space while still allowing to mount a Warn ZEON 10-S winch that clears the electric sway bar motor on Rubicon models.

Here’s a closer look at how to install the mid-width bumper…

Tools Needed

For the removal of factory bumper, shop technicians should be prepared with:

• 16mm wrenches and/or sockets and ratchet
• 21mm wrenches and/or sockets and ratchet

To installal the Road Armor JL Stealth bumper, technicians need:

• 19mm wrenches and/or sockets and ratchet
• 21mm wrenches and/or sockets and ratchet
• Corded or cordless drill
• 9/16″ drill bit

How to Remove the Factory Front Bumper:

1. Disconnect fog light wiring
2. Remove four nuts per side
3. Remove bumper
4. Remove the four frame stiffeners on side of frame. Save two of these bolts for the mid width winch mount
5. Drill out top left and right-hand holes to 9/16″

How to Perform the Mid-Width Front Bumper Installation:

1. Install lights, logo and fair lead
2. Install winch mount using factory hardware on the side
3. Install 2 bolt tabs per side in the outer slots using push nuts
4. Bolt skid plate to bumper using 3/8″ hardware, if purchased
5. Mount bumper to frame using supplied .5″ hardware.  (Save small washers for the inside bolts)
6. Install .5″ bolts and small washers in the inside mounts with the nut to the front
7. Align and tighten
8. Install winch

JL Tire Carriers: Made to fit all JL Stealth Series and factory rear bumpers, Road Armor’s heavy-duty tire carriers easily open with the tailgate-no latches or clamps to worry about coming loose on the trails. They include a license plate relocation bracket with integrated rear-view camera mount for OEM camera. The tire carriers also accommodate additional accessories like a 4-gallon Rotopax and HiLift Jack mount, and are available in premium five-state textured black powder-coat finish or raw steel.

Rocker Guards: Two-piece design, made from 3/16-inch smooth steel, CNC laser-cut, precision brake-formed and welded by craftsmen inside and out. Available in premium five-state textured black powder-coat finish or raw steel.

A-Pillar Light 50-Inch Mount: Two-piece design, made from the highest-quality steel, CNC laser-cut, precision brake-formed and welded by craftsmen inside and out. Designed to accommodate most 50-inch LED light bars as well as a pair of cubes near the base of the windshield. The unique design allows the mounts to be easily un-bolted from the cowl base and give JL owners the freedom to fold down the windshield with ease.
