KPI — September 2022: Recent Vehicle Recalls
2022 Toyota Tundras and Lexus NX 250 and NX 350 SUVs
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 84,000 model-year 2022 Toyota Tundra pickups and luxury sub-brand Lexus NX 250 and NX 350 SUVs are being recalled.
The Problem: The electronic parking brake may not engage or disengage properly, which could result in a rollaway and thereby increase the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will update the software of the skid control electronic control unit as necessary and for free in order to fix the problem. Owners will be notified by late October.
2015-2017 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators
Vehicles Affected: Nearly 198,000 model-year 2015-2017 full-size Ford Expedition SUVs and related Lincoln Navigator SUVs are being recalled.
The Problem: The front blower motor located behind the glove box, a component that helps power the defroster and air-conditioning system, may fail. Such a failure can increase the risk of a vehicle interior fire.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the front blower motor assembly as necessary and for free. Ford will begin notifying owners Sept. 12.
2013-2015 Chevrolet Sparks/2014-2015 Spark EVs
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 120,700 model-year 2013-2015 Chevrolet Sparks and model-year 2014-2015 Spark EVs are being recalled.
The Problem: The issue is with the secondary hood latch, which may corrode at the latch pivot, thus preventing the hood latch from properly engaging. Such a latch failure can result in the vehicle’s hood opening unexpectedly, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the hood striker assembly and hood latch assembly as necessary and for free. GM will begin notifying owners Oct. 10, with second letters mailed once the fix is available.
2017-2020 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty Pickups
Vehicles Affected: Ford issued its third major recall of the month, the latest affecting more than 277,000 of its Ford Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickups and Continental sedans from luxury arm Lincoln. Affected vehicles include model-year 2017-2020 F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty pickups equipped with the Ultimate Trailer Tow Camera System, plus model-year 2017-2020 Continentals equipped with the 360-degree camera system.
The Problem: Degradation of the camera’s antireflective lens coating can lead to a foggy or cloudy rearview camera image, which can reduce the driver’s visibility behind the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the rearview camera for free to resolve the issue. Ford will begin notifying owners Sept. 12.
2020-2022 Hyundai Palisades and Kia Telluride SUVs
Vehicles Affected: More than 245,000 model-year 2020-2022 Hyundai Palisades and 36,400 Kia Telluride SUVs are affected, all of which were potentially equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment or purchased as an accessory through a dealership.
The Problem: Debris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module’s printed circuit board may cause an electrical short regardless of whether or not the vehicle is parked or even on, thereby increasing the risk of a fire and injury.
In addition, Hyundai’s three-row family hauler, the Palisade, is being recalled for failing windshield wipers. The recall affects almost 123,000 model-year 2020-2021 Palisades. The issue stems from the windshield wiper motor, which may become inoperative and cause the wipers to fail.
The Fix: Though a final remedy still needs to be ironed out, dealers will inspect the tow hitch module and remove the fuse as necessary in the interim.
