KPI — July 2021: Recent Vehicle Recalls

(IN THE NEWS: NHTSA launches searchable vehicle recall dashboard.)

2021 Nissan Rogue

Vehicles Affected: More than 47,000 Rogue SUVs are being recalled.

The Problem: The second-row upper tether wires may have been improperly welded to the seatback frame, preventing a car seat from being securely anchored. An insecurely anchored car seat can move during a sudden stop or crash, thereby increasing the risk of injury.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the rear seatbacks for free, as necessary. Nissan will begin notifying owners July 30.

2010-2016 Cadillac SRX and 2011-2012 9-4X SUVs

Vehicles Affected: Nearly 380,500 vehicles are being recalled.

The Problem: The rear suspension toe link adjuster may not have been tightened properly and could result in a loose toe link. This can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the adjustable toe link with a nonadjustable one for free. However, owners are advised to stop driving their vehicles if they experience certain malfunction indicator lamp warnings or other issues, such as unusual steering behavior. Click here for a full list of warnings. GM will begin notifying owners Aug. 9.

2020-2021 Nissan Sentra

Vehicles Affected: Nearly 139,000 model-year 2020-2021 compact sedans are being recalled.

The Problem: Following one of the year’s biggest recalls for a brake light issue back in March, the Nissan Sentra is the subject of yet another sizable recall, noted Cars.com. Specifically, the left or right tie rod may be bent, weakening it to the point of a break. A broken tie rod can cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the bent tie rods for free, as necessary. Nissan will begin notifying owners Aug. 5.

2020-2022 Encore GX and 2021-2022 Trailblazer SUVs

Vehicles Affected: Nearly 135,000 Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs are being recalled.

The Problem: The recall affects the emergency jacks, which, if not positioned as directed in the vehicle owner’s manual, can fracture while in use. This can cause the vehicle to collapse and increase the risk of injury.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the jack for free, and GM will begin notifying owners July 26.

2021 Buick, Chevrolet and GMC Vehicles

Vehicles Affected: More than 285,000 vehicles are being recalled, including the Buick Envision SUV; Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans, as well as Escalade and Escalade ESV SUVs; Chevrolet Corvette sports car, as well as Tahoe and Suburban SUVs; and GMC Yukon/Yukon XL SUVs.

The Problem: The communications gateway module may not process a loss of communication with the sensing diagnostic module correctly, which could cause the airbag malfunction indicator light to illuminate inconsistently. A failing light may not properly warn the driver of a problem with the airbag, increasing the risk of injury.

The Fix: Dealers will update the software in the communications gateway module for free. GM will begin notifying owners July 19.

2016-2019 Ford Explorers

Vehicle Affected: More than 85,500 sedans, wagons and SUVs are being recalled, including model-year 2019-2020 S60, S90 and S90L sedans; V60, V60 Cross Country, V90 and V90 Cross Country wagons; and XC60 and XC90 SUVs.

The Problem: A low-pressure fuel pump can blow a fuse and cause a stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the fuse for free, and Volvo will begin notifying owners Aug. 1.
