Volkswagen Expands Basecamp Appearance Package

Volkswagen of America has expanded the Basecamp accessory line for Atlas Cross Sport models, building on the line that has been available for Atlas since 2020.

Available individually, or as a complete Basecamp kit, the body-cladding elements aim to create a more rugged overland look, Volkswagen designers said. The accessory line also includes off-road inspired wheels that can be paired with available all-terrain tires.

“As consumers and dealers continue to seek SUVs with rugged appearance characteristics, we will continue to offer accessory options that allow them to further personalize their Volkswagen SUV,” said Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy at Volkswagen of America. “It made sense to expand the line to include Atlas Cross Sport alongside Atlas and the Taos Basecamp styling program.”

First introduced in 2020, the Basecamp accessory line was developed from design elements of the Atlas Basecamp concept, unveiled at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. Produced by Air Design, the Basecamp styling package for Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models includes a two-tone textured black and satin silver front valance, textured matte black flares with integrated splashguards, satin silver side door rocker panels, and satin silver rear valance with trailer hitch access.

The complete Atlas kit comes with exclusive front quarter-panel-mounted Basecamp badges that are not offered separately (not available for Atlas Cross Sport.)

Both accessory lines also include the 17-inch Traverse MX wheels produced specifically for Volkswagen by fifteen52, available in two colors—frosted graphite and radiant silver.
