Tuff Country Co-Founder Kelly Davis Retires After 38 Years in Suspension

After nearly four decades, the suspension brand co-founder steps away as Tuff Country continues building its dealer network…

After 38 years, Kelly Davis has announced his retirement from Tuff Country, the company he founded with his brother, Troy, in 1988.

Kelly and Troy started in a 1,000-square-foot facility in West Valley City, Utah, with the goal of providing quality suspension systems at a competitive price. They tested their suspension systems in the Wasatch Mountains and on the trails of Moab, and they built every kit in the U.S., a company press release stated.

After Tuff Country was sold in 2019, Davis felt the company he had built was drifting away from his and his brother’s original vision. In 2024, Davis and a couple of colleagues had the opportunity to reacquire Tuff Country and bring it back to the roots the company was founded on.

“When Troy and I started this, we wanted to build parts we’d be proud to put on our own trucks,” said Davis. “Thirty-eight years later, that is still my vision. I’m grateful to every customer, dealer, employee and friend who trusted us along the way.”

Tuff Country will keep operating from West Jordan, Utah, under the same ownership that bought back the business two years ago. In the year ahead, it will continue to build its dealer network, improve its online experience and offer kit part numbers to help with replacement parts, the company said.

The Tuff Country team says that it is grateful to Davis for the company he built, the lessons he taught them and the trust he placed in them to carry on his and Troy’s legacy.
