Luxury cars have long been a symbol of success in America, but where you live may play a bigger role in that fascination than you think. From coastal enclaves filled with high-earning professionals to tourist hotspots where supercars are part of the scenery, some states are far more captivated by high-end vehicles than others.

A new study by SDVH [Self Drive Vehicle Hire] analyzed Google search data to find out which U.S. states are most obsessed with luxury cars and the most popular luxury cars searched. By tracking per-capita searches for terms like “luxury cars” alongside popular high-end models and brands, the study reveals where Americans are most likely to browse, research or dream about premium vehicles.

High-Status Models

Across the country, luxury car interest is clustering around a clear set of high-status models rather than vague brand admiration. Searches frequently spike for the Ferrari Roma, a grand tourer that starts at around $240,000 and is often seen as a more understated entry point into Ferrari ownership. On the ultra-performance side, Americans are also drawn to the Lamborghini Huracán, which typically costs upwards of $250,000 and remains one of the most searched supercars thanks to its aggressive styling and pop-culture presence.

Aspirational but Attainable Models

German luxury dominates the “aspirational but attainable” tier. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, priced from roughly $110,000, continues to define executive luxury, while BMW shoppers gravitate toward the BMW 7 Series and performance-focused M8, both symbols of wealth that still feel usable for daily driving. From Porsche, the Cayenne SUV and the iconic 911 Carrera remain top search targets, blending luxury credentials with sports-car DNA.

SUVs & Tech-Forward Luxury Models

SUVs and tech-forward luxury also feature heavily in American searches. The Range Rover Autobiography, often priced well above $120,000, appeals to buyers who want comfort and presence, while Lexus models like the LS sedan and LX SUV attract those prioritizing reliability alongside prestige. Meanwhile, electric luxury continues to rise, with the Tesla Model S Plaid, costing around $90,000, standing out as a performance EV that competes directly with traditional luxury sedans.

Hawaii Tops the List

In Hawaii, the nation’s most luxury-car-obsessed state, search interest often revolves around experience-driven vehicles rather than pure commuting tools. Models like the Ferrari Roma, Lamborghini Huracán, and Range Rover Autobiography are frequently associated with resort rentals and lifestyle marketing, helping explain why the islands generate such intense per-capita interest despite their small population.

Executive & Commuter-Friendly Luxury Models

Connecticut and New Jersey, meanwhile, show a stronger pull toward executive and commuter-friendly luxury. Searches in these states commonly focus on Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans, BMW 7 Series models, and Porsche Cayennes, reflecting the preferences of high-earning professionals who want comfort, prestige and performance rolled into one. Massachusetts follows a similar pattern, though interest there skews slightly toward Audi RS models and Porsche sports cars, aligning with the state’s tech and finance-heavy workforce.

Statement-Making Models

Florida and Nevada stand out for their appetite for flashier, statement-making vehicles. In Miami and Las Vegas, searches for Lamborghini Huracán models, Ferrari Roma coupes, and high-spec Tesla Model S Plaid variants are particularly strong, mirroring the visual culture of both states. California rounds out the top 10 with unmatched total search volume, where everything from Porsche 911s and Tesla Model S Plaids to ultra-high-end Ferraris fuels a luxury car culture that blends innovation, performance and image at scale.

Methodology

This study analyzed Google search data to identify which U.S. states show the strongest interest in luxury cars. Keywords included “luxury cars,” alongside searches for specific high-end models such as the Ferrari Roma, Lamborghini Huracán, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Porsche 911 and Cayenne, Tesla Model S Plaid, Audi RS7, Lexus LS and Range Rover Autobiography. Total search volume was adjusted for population size to calculate per-capita search interest, allowing states to be ranked by relative luxury car obsession rather than raw population alone.
