Stellantis Confirms Layoffs for 2,450 Factory Employees

A new report from CNN notes that Stellantis has confirmed the layoffs of 2,450 factory workers from its Warren truck plant near Detroit.
The news comes on the tail-end of the manufacturer announcing the end of the Ram 1500 Classic and production of its 5.7L V8 Hemi engine. The plant will move from a two-shift operation to a one-shift operating pattern over the coming months as layoffs are expected to come as early as Oct. 8.
As demand for the outgoing 1500 classic wanes, the brand will use the Ram 1500 Tradesman as the standard model, which will be produced at the brand’s Sterling Heights assembly facility.
Around 3,700 workers are currently employed by the Warren Truck plant, which is represented by the United Auto Workers union. Union employees will receive 52 weeks of unemployment benefits and 52 weeks of transition assistance, alongside two years of healthcare coverage, according to the report.
