Stanadyne is one of only a few automotive companies that can trace its roots back to America’s Reconstruction Era, company officials stated in a press release. This year, Stanadyne celebrates 150 years of shaping innovative systems and components around the world.
From its start as the Hartford Machine Screw Company to its current position as a leader in advanced fuel systems, air management and remanufactured products, Stanadyne continues to reinvent itself through precision manufacturing, technology advancements and a commitment to providing optimum solutions across all industries, noted the release.
From Screw Machines to Fuel Systems
The company began in Connecticut as a manufacturer serving America’s industrial age with its revolutionary automatic screw machine. Eventually, its name was changed to Standard Screw Company, and it was purchased by Moen in 1937; that acquisition accelerated an expansion into the fuel injection market that would become foundational to modern transportation, the company said.
While the Stanadyne brand wasn’t formally established until 1970, the company’s engineering initiatives had already influenced powertrain production across multiple industries. In the following years, Stanadyne continued introducing benchmark technologies.
Since its inception 150 years ago, Stanadyne has produced more than 40 million diesel pumps, over 200 million diesel injectors and millions of gasoline direct injection pumps. Today, the company’s global operations include advanced manufacturing and engineering centers in North Carolina, South Carolina, India and China, supported by expertise in combustion analysis, computational fluid dynamics, durability testing, thermal analysis and high-pressure fuel system development.
The PurePower Technologies Acquisition
A pivotal chapter in Stanadyne’s modern growth came in 2019 with the acquisition of PurePower Technologies, expanding the company’s capabilities in remanufactured diesel fuel systems and aftermarket support. Today, PurePower remanufactures hundreds of thousands of diesel components annually and keeps more than 500,000 pounds of waste out of landfills each year through its reclamation and remanufacturing programs.
