The SP40 Restomod Is Inspired by the 1934 Model 40 Special Speedster

Iconic Auto Sports—the award-winning, low-volume Argentinian automaker—presents its new handcrafted Art Deco SP40 car design…

Iconic Auto Sports introduces the brand-new SP40 Restomod Speedster, a tribute to the legendary 1934 Model 40. From its carbon fiber body and aluminum accents to its Ford Coyote V-8 engine and thoughtfully engineered modern chassis, the SP40 honors the relentless spirit that defined Edsel Ford’s timeless design and groundbreaking automotive vision, company officials stated in a press release.

Based in Argentina outside of Buenos Aires with an atelier in San Isidro, Iconic Auto Sports is an award-winning low-volume automaker co-founded by Francisco Orden and Arturo Arrebillaga. Working together, the pair have won a trio of prestigious Autoclasica awards for Best Argentinian Handcrafted Coachbuilders.

The SP40 Restomod Is a Modern Reinterpretation of the Model 40 Special Speedster

“From the first time we saw the Model 40 Special Speedster, we were absolutely captivated by the purity of its form,” says Arrebillaga. “The Model 40 was a car born from the perfect balance of design and function. At SP40 Restomod, our goal with the introduction of the SP40 was not to replicate history, but to awaken it. Every line, every curve, every mechanical detail reflects our obsession with making the best car that we could to feel, to see and to drive.”

Crafted entirely by hand, the SP40 Restomod is a modern reinterpretation of the Art Deco design ethos. Modern carbon fiber bodywork replaces the original aircraft-grade hand-rolled aluminum, preserving the vintage silhouette while also allowing for lightness and strength. Beneath its sculpted carbon fiber body, the SP40 Restomod’s tubular spaceframe chassis, designed by renowned Argentine engineer Pedro Campo, forms the foundation of the SP40’s brilliant speed and performance, noted the release.

Power comes from a 480-plus-horsepower Ford Coyote V-8 paired with a Tremec 5-speed manual, with Brembo braking, an independent double-wishbone suspension, fully adjustable coil-overs, and forged aluminum wheels delivering sharp, balanced dynamics. Weighing just over 2,600 pounds, each SP40 is a masterclass in lightweight design, mechanical purity and bespoke execution, the company said.

Every SP40 Restomod Is a One-Off Creation, Built To Order

Inside, each SP40 is tailored to the client’s vision, with a choice of leathers, walnut trim, hand-machined aluminum and carbon fiber details. The analog instrument cluster and minimalist controls recall the tactile purity of the original car, while concealed modern amenities such as climate control and wireless charging blend seamlessly into the cockpit’s vintage geometry.

“Argentina has a long tradition of motorsport ingenuity, engineering and passion,” adds Orden. “In South America, we grew up admiring both North American muscle and European sophistication, and the SP40 delightfully represents that fusion. The SP40 Restomod is a car that carries Edsel Ford’s spirit, but speaks a new design language, one shaped by modern materials and racing experience.”

Exclusively handcrafted and individually numbered, every SP40 is a one-off creation, built to order, ensuring no two examples will be the same. And with a new North American office in Miami, the SP40 Restomod Speedster model is now available for sale in the United States.
