Shelby GT350R Prototype Breaks Record for Most Expensive Mustang

Sold at auction for a final price of $3,850,000, a 1965 Shelby GT350R prototype has set a new record for the most expensive Mustang ever sold at public auction, according to Hagerty.

The car is the first ever GT350R, tested and developed by Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles, Bob Bondurant and a few other legendary wheelmen, which later birthed 36 other R models, as well as the GT350 street version.

The sale broke the record of $3.74 million, set earlier this year by the original Mustang from the Steve McQueen classic, Bullitt.
