Shelby American, ACAT Global Collaborating on Catalytic Converter Development

Shelby American and ACAT Global are collaborating on a development program to create emission systems that increase horsepower, reduce emissions and improve reliability for its line of high-performance vehicles, the companies announced. The two companies will initially focus their efforts on enhancing 5.0-liter Ford V8 engines in Shelby American built versions of the Ford Mustang and Ford F-150, as well as the 5.2 Voodoo and “Predator” engines in the Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT500.

“Shelby American began defining performance in 1962 with the amazing Shelby Cobra, Shelby GT350 and Ford GT40,” said Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American. “Since then, we’ve relentlessly pursued innovations that set international expectations. That’s why we’re working with ACAT Global to leverage their exciting new technologies and rewrite the rules again.”

ACAT Global manufactures catalytic converters and exhaust systems for internal combustion engine (ICE) applications worldwide. The company’s proprietary catalytic converter and exhaust technology is engineered for on and off-road performance applications and are 50-state compliant.

“ACAT Global is advancing the goal of a cleaner, greener and more ‘fun’ world by optimizing the performance of internal combustion engines,” said Joe Moch, CEO of ACAT Global. “Our advanced systems can be tailored for specific applications in the automotive, marine, off-road, motorcycle and power generation industries. Beginning with two of Shelby American’s most popular vehicles, our goal is to make them faster, more reliable and cleaner.”

The joint development team collaborates between Las Vegas and Detroit. They have begun designing components and systems for both naturally aspirated and supercharged 5.0-liter Ford V8’s, as well as the two 5.2-liter motors. A testing regimen is also being conducted and then ACAT Global will work with the appropriate parties to deliver product-compliant to governmental vehicle emissions standards.
