Recaro Enters Off-Road Market With New Seat Designs

Recaro has entered the off-road market with two new seat offerings.

Whether it’s for fun or competition, sitting safely is a must for effective off-road driving. Recaro Automotive Seating has now entered the market with two new off-road seat offerings—the Recaro Cross Sportster ORV and Pro Racer SPG XL ORV.

Jim Cangiano, vice president of sales and marketing at Recaro Automotive Seating, reported that market research shows that off-road driving is increasing in the United States, noting that the off-road vehicle (ORV) market is expected to grow by at least 3% over the next five years.

“Today, we find both extreme and weekend off-road enthusiasts pushing their vehicles to the limits,” Cangiano said. “While the vehicles have evolved to support this environment, seating has not. We understood these special needs and worked with pro and weekend off-roaders to create the right seating applications.”

Unveiled at the 2019 SEMA Show, the Cross Sportster ORV is aimed at street-legal off-road cars, while the Pro Racer SPG XL ORV 2 is designed for off-road race cars.

Formula Drift and Ultra4 champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Ultra4 champion Loren Healy were among the professional drivers involved in the design process for the new seats, and both were on hand at the Recaro SEMA booth for the unveiling.

“Recaro’s constant innovation to keep racers and enthusiasts safe and comfortable—no matter our choice of fun from behind the wheel—is something I am very grateful for,” Gittin said. “There is no question Recaro’s effort and passion has saved me from serious injury on more than one occasion, both on and off-road.”
