Race Teams Flocking to Best In The Desert’s ‘Vegas to Reno’

Best in the Desert has continued its torrid pace for the first half of its 2018 schedule.

“We are ecstatic that over 350 race teams signed up for the drawing for this year’s 22nd running of the General Tire Vegas to Reno presented by Fox. Surpassing our previous record represents the support the off-road racing community continues to give Best in the Desert,” said Daryl Folks, Best in the Desert’s co-owner.

The 22nd running of the Vegas to Reno off-road desert race is scheduled for Aug. 15-18. The race also represents the unofficial kick-off to the second half of the Best In The Desert race season.

Vegas to Reno was an absolute favorite of Best In The Desert’s founder Casey Folks. It marked his first race where he added car, truck and quad race vehicle classes to his already established motorcycle classes,” said Donald Jackson, Best in the Desert operations manager. “This legendary event is absolutely the ultimate desert racing adventure. It is our flagship event and we are all fully dedicated to making sure Vegas to Reno will always continue in the great tradition and spirit that Casey would want.”

General Tire Vegas to Reno presented by FOX is a traditional single race day format. At over 540 miles in length, the race will start in Beatty, Nevada and end just south of Reno, in Dayton, Nevada, home of Nevada’s first gold discovery. Elevations along the course vary from around 3,000 feet to over 7,200 feet.

Temperatures will range from the high 90s during the day to the low 40s at night through the higher elevations. From Beatty, the course travels north past many towns that were rich in Nevada’s silver and gold rush mining history, including Goldfield, Tonopah, Hawthorne and Rawhide.
