NASCAR Considers Change to Hybrid Technology
The hybrid regulations could hit the track as early as 2026...
According to a new report from Yahoo News, NASCAR is considering dropping the current V8 engine requirements in favor of hybrid technology. This change could come as early as 2026.
The current 5.8L V8 engine requirement has been in place for over a decade. Drawing from general consumer purchasing trends, NASCAR’s modern V8 engine doesn’t share much powertrain technology with current showroom models. This hybrid push could help the series to bring the track and dealers closer together once again.
The push for hybrid in NASCAR could also bring more manufacturers to the series. The stock car racing series also owns IMSA, which has seen positive growth, including two additional manufacturers since the introduction of hybrid technology in 2023.
