Miami Armored has introduced full ballistic protection for the Lexus LX 700h, marking a new step in the evolution of armored vehicles as hybrid platforms enter the high-security segment, company officials stated in a press release. As fuel costs continue to rise and demand for hybrid vehicles grows across the luxury market, clients seeking protection are also becoming more attentive to efficiency and overall vehicle usability. The expectation is no longer just safety, the company said, but a vehicle that can integrate into daily life while meeting higher security standards.
“For years, we’ve been asked whether a hybrid could be armored,” said Philip Daskal, president of Miami Armored. “Today, the answer is yes. What’s exciting now is being able to bring this capability to platforms our clients are already asking for.”
Engineering Challenges & Solutions for Armoring a Hybrid
While armoring adds weight and impacts certain performance aspects, advancements in engineering and materials have significantly improved how that weight is managed, noted the release.

The process involves reinforcing the vehicle’s structure and integrating ballistic materials throughout critical areas, ensuring full 360-degree protection. For the hybrid Lexus LX 700h, the company offers two distinct protection platforms designed for different client profiles: a lightweight configuration designed for urban environments, such as cities across the United States, delivering discreet protection with reduced added weight; and a higher-level configuration built for elevated risk scenarios, capable of withstanding 7.62x51mm rifle rounds.
Additional reinforcements include armored glass, overlap systems to eliminate vulnerable gaps, and protection for key components such as the engine bay, fuel system and battery areas. Each vehicle is engineered to maintain a factory-like appearance while delivering comprehensive security, the company said.
