On Sept. 19, Italian designer and longtime head of Mercedes-Benz design team, Bruno Sacco, passed away in Germany. In 1974, Sacco was named as the head of the styling center and under his leadership every car, truck and bus from 1975-99 was designed under his tenure.
In recent times, Sacco’s design language, called the “Mercedes Design Philosophy,” prompted some of the most influential Mercedes designs and incorporated earlier design philosophy while looking at the car through a more modern lens. Some of his most standout designs included the R129 SL, the W126 S-class and the C111 sports car.
While Sacco only intended to stay at Mercedes for a short tenure, his designs will continued to be appreciated by car enthusiasts for years to come.
