A new report from Autoblog states that Mercedes-Benz is cracking down on counterfeit parts. In 2023, the brand conducted at least 740 raids into counterfeit parts manufacturers worldwide.

The brand points out the crackdown came from safety concerns from improper repairs and safety issues from these various parts. In total, the brand seized over 1.6 million parts last year. Mercedes-Benz said the most commonly counterfeited parts include many safety systems like brakes, steering, wheels and body panels.

The car manufacturer works closely with local law enforcement divisions to set up and follow-through on raids of counterfeit manufacturers. In 2023, the rate of raids by the brand was up nearly 20% from the previous year. Following seizure, the parts are destroyed to ensure safe supply chains and consumer vehicles.

Mercedes also noted that counterfit parts are constantly developing and becoming harder to differentiate from their products. “Lower prices, abnormalities in product quality, or sales via dubious online sources,” are some of the best ways to identify counterfeit product.
