Maserati Delivers Latest MCXtrema Track Car to New Owner in Tampa

Maserati delivered its latest MCXtrema, the company’s most extreme track car, to American customer and racing enthusiast, Michael Moss. The exclusive handover took place during a private delivery event at Maserati of Tampa on Saturday, April 18, where guests gathered to witness the unveiling of one of the brand’s most uncompromising and unique creations, company officials stated in a press release.

Hosted by Maserati of Tampa, part of the Morgan Automotive Group, the event included a select group of clients, collectors and media, culminating in the reveal of Moss’ highly tailored MCXtrema, which is one of only 62 examples to be produced.

“This car represents everything I love about performance and engineering,” said Moss. “From the moment I began working with Maserati on this car, I wanted to create something truly personal and as focused as possible for the track. Being part of the journey, from visiting Modena and attending the GT2 European Series to experiencing the car on track with Andrea Bertolini at Monza, made this delivery incredibly meaningful. I can’t wait to push it to its limits in GT competition.”

Moss’ MCXtrema features a distinctive Italian Flag livery, making it the only car of its kind. It also holds the provenance of bearing the last VIN in MCXtrema’s production run, number 62, though more cars are currently in production.

A Close Collaboration for Peak Track Performance

From the very beginning, Moss has been in close communication with the brand and Corse (Racing) team, making dedicated visits to Maserati’s Modena Headquarters and to Turin for configuration exercises with Maserati head of design, Klaus Busse. Moss specified his MCXtrema for peak performance at the track; it’s configured without a passenger seat to minimize weight and includes options such as a race-oriented tool kit, telemetry options, quick refuelling kit and advanced TPMS, which measures the temperature of the surface of the tires. This extreme specification underscores Moss’ intent to actively compete with the car, noted the release.

Further enhancing its rarity, the car bears the signature of Klaus Busse on the transmission cooling air scoop, accompanied by an original hand-drawn sketch on the rear body, an artistic tribute to this special collaboration between client and brand.

730 HP, Carbon-Fiber Monocoque & 200-Plus Hours of Testing

As the jewel of Maserati’s Corse program, MCXtrema features the most powerful version of the Trident’s patented Formula 1-derived Nettuno V-6 engine, delivering 730 horsepower to the rear wheels through a sequential racing gearbox. Its performance is supported through cutting-edge aerodynamics using minimal ride height, a fully flat underfloor, front splitter, rear wing and shark fin, plus a sculptural rear diffuser.

MCXtrema’s carbon-fiber monocoque chassis ensures maximum rigidity while maintaining a lightweight structure, resulting in a curb weight of only 2,866 pounds. Its racing suspension features double-wishbone geometry and kinematics, along with fully adjustable racing dampers, springs and anti-roll bars, all tuned for the track.

MCXtrema underwent extensive virtual simulations and over 200 hours of real-world dynamic testing to refine its handling and performance. Unrestricted by road homologation requirements, MCXtrema represents the pinnacle of Maserati’s engineering capabilities, the company said.
