ICON 4×4 Launches C Modern Retro Series Based on New Silverado Platform

ICON 4×4 has launched its newest vehicle program: the Chevrolet C Modern Retro Series, a limited-production series that blends the iconic styling of the 1967-72 Chevrolet C10 and C20 pickup with the engineering, performance and everyday usability of a brand-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4×4 V-8, company officials stated in a press release.

Developed from the ground up by ICON founder Jonathan Ward and his team of engineers, designers and craftsmen, the C Modern Retro Series is neither a restoration nor a conventional C10 Chevy build. Instead, it represents a comprehensive reengineering effort that preserves the complete functionality of a modern Silverado while clothing it in one of the most beloved classic Chevrolet trucks ever produced, noted the release.

Built on New Silverado 1500 Platform

Each handcrafted truck begins life as a new Silverado 1500 4×4 equipped with Chevrolet’s V-8 powertrain, advanced four-wheel-drive system, modern safety technologies, ABS braking system, infotainment systems and towing capability. ICON then undertakes an extensive transformation, integrating an authentic 1967–72 Chevrolet pickup body with bespoke engineering solutions developed specifically for the program. The result is a handcrafted truck that delivers the visual simplicity and character of a vintage Chevy truck while retaining the comfort, performance and serviceability expected of a contemporary vehicle.

“The 1967 through 1972 Chevrolet truck is one of the purest automotive designs ever produced,” said Ward. “For years, enthusiasts have been forced to choose between vintage aesthetics and modern functionality. Even existing C10 builds on the market also came with many compromises. This program eliminates that compromise. You get the soul and presence of the original truck combined with the capability and reliability of a modern Silverado.”

Every example of the C Modern Retro Series will be individually commissioned and assembled in ICON’s Southern California facility, with extensive opportunities for personalization while maintaining the design integrity and engineering standards that define the ICON brand. Each build is tailored to the owner’s vision while adhering to ICON’s uncompromising design and engineering philosophy, the company said. Production will be strictly limited to five units.

Derelict vs. Old School Build Styles

Prospective owners may choose between ICON’s signature Derelict style build and the Old School style build. The Derelict Series uses original-paint vehicles with natural wear and tear to create a truck that blends in anywhere while delivering character and style. The Old School style fully restores the truck in its original appearance. Both approaches represent distinct interpretations of the Chevrolet C Modern Retro philosophy.

Either build style features a fully undercoated body with extensive modern sound deadening and thermal shield coatings, along with an interior featuring a custom seat with improved ergonomics and custom dash panels that integrate all the new truck’s features and controls. Designed in a vintage style with custom-machined aluminum dash panels, the interior preserves the visual character of the original truck while incorporating modern conveniences, including power door locks operated by the new truck key fob and power windows disguised as analog window cranks.

Omakase ICON Special

Only one truck will be reserved as an extra-special project and serve as the first release of an “Omakase ICON.” Under the Omakase Special program, the vehicle’s design direction is entrusted entirely to Ward. Drawing upon decades of design expertise and global sourcing resources, the program is intended to deliver a uniquely personal and highly individualized interpretation of the C Modern Retro concept and bespoke truck build philosophy, resulting in a one-of-one Chevrolet pickup unlike any other, according to the release.

Pricing

Pricing for the Derelict Series starts at $450,000, while pricing for the Old School Series starts at $500,000. Pricing includes the new Silverado truck but excludes the donor vintage C10/C20. The singular Omakase ICON starts at $550,000. Final pricing may vary slightly depending on the specific C10/C20 selected, as well as chosen materials and design details.
