H&H Classics has held its first-ever weekend auction at Millbrook Proving Ground—a nearly 700-acre automotive testing facility in Bedfordshire, UK—which resulted in strong results for British classics, auction officials stated in a press release. The sale, held on Sunday, May 10, saw nearly 80 lots going under the hammer, with a 67% sell-through rate and total sales of £1.2 million (over $1.63 million).
A 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Sedanca Coupe, one of just 279 examples of its type, found a new home for £156,375 ($213,139), the highest price achieved on the day and more than £6,000 ($8,178) above its lower estimate. The car was a Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club award winner during previous ownership and was once owned by celebrated bandleader and violinist Bert Ambrose.
Additionally, a 1973 Jaguar E-Type V-12 Roadster, with less than 36,000 miles on the odometer and having been off the road for several years, was hammered away for £43,312 ($59,034), more than £13,000 ($17,719) above its lower estimate. In need of recommissioning, it attracted the interest of enthusiasts looking for a straightforward project.

A 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint FHC fetched £25,312 ($34,500), more than £11,000 ($14,993) above its lower estimate. The car had been in the same ownership since 1981 and was offered with a comprehensive history detailing a full restoration completed six years ago.
“We were thrilled to hold our first-ever weekend auction at the Millbrook Proving Ground, and it was especially pleasing to see some notable results, not least for British classics,” said James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics.
Other standout results included a vintage 1927 Lagonda Two-Liter Speed Model Tourer being hammered away for £35,438 ($48,302), more than £7,400 ($10,086) above its lower estimate. It is a wonderfully patinated example that was supplied with a large history file, noted the release.
Meanwhile, a 1957 Jaguar XK150 3.4-Liter Drophead Coupé was hammered away for £52,875 ($72,069), almost £8,000 ($10,904) above its lower estimate, and a 1948 Triumph 1800 Roadster, a multiple best in show winner, fetched £21,938 ($29,901), almost £6,000 ($8,178) above its lower estimate.
Two project cars also performed well on the day. A c.1932 Frazer Nash TT Replica Evocation with a Two-Large AC Engine and a 1976 Aston Martin V-8 were sold for £37,688 ($51,369) and £33,750 ($46,001), respectively, despite both requiring extensive works.
