Pennzoil and Formula Drift Driver Federico Sceriffo have released the Drifting 101 Interview, which highlights the nuances of Formula Drift (FD) and invites motorsport fans to check out the growing sport.
The interview highlights some of the differences between Formula Drift and other areas of motorsport. One of the biggest is the judging aspect, where FD uses judges to determine the best line and angle and style, between two back-to-back runs from a pair of drivers.
“Drifting is unique because there’s no clock. It’s about freestyle driving under the guidance of judges, which sets it apart from the precision of other racing forms, You start at the line with 100 points and lose points for mistakes or not fulfilling the tasks the judges assigned. The key is to fill clipping zones and pass over clipping points as precisely as possible. The best drivers showcase complete control by brushing walls and buffering poles with the nose of the car,” said Sceriffo.
In 2023 Sceriffo did not compete in the Formula Drift series, but has returned for 2024 in his Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano called “Fiorella.” The car utilizes a twin-turbocharged V12 and the team replaced the factory Ferrari F1 automatic transmission with a Hollinger 6-speed sequential transmission.
