EnerSys Renews ODYSSEY Sponsorship With Teenage Drag Racing Siblings

Candra, 13, is joining the Junior Drag Racing Series while Harry, 17, competes in the Sportsman class…

EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), manufacturer of ODYSSEY batteries, has renewed its ODYSSEY Battery sponsorship with Redshaw Racing for the 2025 season of the British Drag Racing Championship. The brother and sister drag racing team of Candra and Harry Redshaw are heading into their biggest race events of the season at the Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire.

“We’re proud to support the next generation of British drag racing talent,” said Dave McMullen, senior director of global marketing, transportation & specialty at EnerSys. “It has been a fantastic journey so far since initiating our ODYSSEY Battery sponsorship with the Redshaw family. This season looks set to be the most exciting yet as Candra brings a new wave of talent and excitement to the Junior Dragster category and Harry eyes his first title in the Sportsman class. We wish them both every success”

At 13 years old, Candra Redshaw is set to go head-to-head with some of the fastest young drivers in Europe in the third round of the British Junior Drag Racing Championship, set for May 22-26. As her second season of racing competitively gathers pace, she is already building a reputation for precision and speed behind the wheel.

She will be battling it out on the drag strip at Santa Pod in an ODYSSEY-branded Junior Dragster, which goes from 0-60 mph in just over 3 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 85 mph.

Seeking a podium finish

Older brother Harry, 17, who is competing in the Sportsman class for the first time this season, is aiming for a podium finish in the British Championships as he revs up for his next major race event at Santa Pod from June 6-8. He started racing at the age of 8 in the Junior Dragster category and won his first title in 2017 when he was crowned French Champion. He took second place in 2019 before going on to win the British Junior Drag Racing Championship in 2021

Harry, who is among the youngest to compete in the Sportsman class this season, will take on veteran drivers in his modified MINI vehicle, which can reach speeds of up to 200 mph.

“Drag racing is a way of life for our family and I’m glad my sister has caught the bug, too,” said Harry. “Although we compete in different categories at the moment, it’s only a few years before we’ll be racing against each other in the Pro ET class. We’re both fiercely competitive, so there will definitely be some friendly sibling rivalry between us. Candra is pretty impressive behind the wheel; she really knows how to hold her own against drivers who are much older. I’m really looking forward to cheering her on this season. I’ll also be focusing on my own performance of course, as I aim to secure my first podium finish in the Sportsman class.”

The Redshaw siblings’ involvement in drag racing is a family affair, with Candra’s twin sister Lilly, brother Damion (14), and parents Chris and Tracy acting as their pit crew and race engineers.

“I can’t wait for the next round of the British Junior Drag Racing Championships at Santa Pod,” said Candra. “I’m also excited about watching Harry compete in Sportsman class for the first time. There’s always such an incredible atmosphere at drag racing events, and we’ll have the whole family behind us this season, as well as our sponsor, EnerSys, and their high-performance ODYSSEY batteries. It’s going to be epic.”

EnerSys is providing ODYSSEY Battery sponsorship for the Redshaw family for the 10th consecutive year as the siblings compete at drag racing events in the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
