Detroit to Build Wireless Charging Road | THE SHOPThe state of Michigan has awarded a contract to Electreon to build the nation’s first public electric charging road in Detroit, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced.

Expected to be operational by 2023, the road is currently planned to be up to a 1-mile stretch and will allow electric vehicle drivers to charge their vehicle’s battery while driving.

Electric vehicles in motion or parked over the road will be able to charge using induction, using infrastructure built with copper coils embedded in the asphalt, according to the state.
