Caterham and Yamaha Partner on Project V

A new report from Road & Track states that english sports car manufacturer Caterham and Yamaha are teaming up to create a new electric sports car.
The new sports car, known as the Project V, made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2023. The model is aimed for a full production run with the brand focusing on an extremely lightweight design, expected to weigh around 2,400 pounds.
Yamaha’s new announcement states the team will be designing the 55-kWh battery pack and e-axle for the Project V. The model is expected to offer around 268 hp and a 0-60 time of under 4.5 seconds.
The report from Road & Track notes that Yamaha is no stranger to designing electric drivetrains, having worked recently with Subaru on the STI ‘E-RA’ which stands for Electric Record Attempt. The car attempted to complete the Nurburgring track in under 400 seconds and utilized four Yamaha electric motors capable of nearly 1,100 hp.
The english car manufacturer is best known in for the Caterham 7, which utilizes a 2.0L Ford Duratech engine, models are then shipped to the U.S. as kit cars to be built by owners or shops around the country. The brand plans for the Project V to be a full production model unlike the Caterham 7.
