Cameron Steele Rejoins Team Yokohama

The Baja champion returns to the brand for the first time since 2015...

Yokohama Tire announced off-road veteran Cameron Steele and his Desert Assassins team are rejoining Team Yokohama. The Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Famer and action sports commentator started his career in the mid-1980s competing on Yokohama tires. Steele will drive his famous No. 16 truck fitted with GEOLANDAR MT-R 40X13.50R18 tires in desert racing series events in Baja, Mexico, and elsewhere in North America.

“It’s rad to rejoin the Yokohama family,” Steele said. “We’ve had great success with Yokohama in the past, but now it’s time for the Desert Assassins and Yokohama to write the next chapter in off-road racing!”

“Steele is a leader in the off-road community,” said Andrew Briggs, Yokohama’s VP of marketing and product management. “He’s an accomplished driver and Baja champion, but he’s far more than a racer: he’s an ambassador to the sport and to the community at large. We’re excited to have him and the entire Desert Assassins back on the team competing on Yokohama GEOLANDAR tires.

The partnership between Steele and Yokohama goes beyond the race course, as Briggs added that Steele and the Desert Assassins team will also be collaborating on various GEOLANDAR marketing campaigns. “Light Truck tires have become such an immense and important portion of our business, Cameron has positioned himself as a voice for the off-road culture. It’s a natural fit and he’ll be an integral part of showcasing and communicating the durability and performance of our GEOLANDAR tires.”

Yokohama’s extensive list of 2024 North American-based motorsports activities on- and off-road include: Porsche Sprint Challenge North America by Yokohama, Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West by Yokohama, Porsche Carrera Cup North America, Pikes Peak GT4 Trophy by Yokohama, Nitrocross, King of the Hammers, Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000, Crandon International Raceway sponsorship, Ultra4 USA, TrophyLite Series and the Championship Off-Road Series partnership.
