A Look Back at Porsche’s Failed IndyCar Program

A sportscar powerhouse, Porsche tried to take over America’s highest level of open wheel racing in the 1980s, only to run into numerous speed bumps along the way.

Even with a 2.65-liter turbocharged V-8 under the cowling and Teo Fabi behind the wheel, Porsche only managed to win one race before pulling out of the sport completely in 1990, never finishing better than 18th at the Indianapolis 500.
