At its first Classic Sale during the Silverstone Festival on August 24, Iconic Auctioneers will offer a distinctive 1989 Alfa Romeo 75 V-6 3.0 Veloce, famously driven by Jeremy Clarkson in “Top Gear.” This Alfa Romeo has a unique story and would be a fun addition to any collection, stated company officials in a press release.
The Alfa Romeo 75 appeared in Episode 3, Series 11 of “Top Gear” in 2008, in which the three presenters were tasked with buying an Alfa Romeo for under £1,000 (approximately $1,350). Jeremy Clarkson bought this car for just £450 (approximately $580), highlighting its rear-mounted gearbox for improved weight distribution, limited-slip differential and distinctive in-board rear brakes. Clarkson notably praised its 3.0-liter Busso V-6 engine, calling it “one of the best engines ever to go into mass production.”
Throughout the episode, the car faced several challenges, including a track day at Rockingham Motor Speedway, a calendar photoshoot and the Auto Italia Stanford Hall Concours, for which Clarkson personally repainted it in a memorable shade he called “Skoda Green.” Today, the car still wears much of Clarkson’s original paintwork and battle scars from its TV adventures.
Auctions at the Silverstone Festival
This Alfa Romeo 75 will be auctioned at Iconic Auctioneers’ inaugural Classic Sale at the Silverstone Festival, one of the U.K.’s leading historic motorsport events, which attracts more than 90,000 visitors annually, noted the release. The festival weekend will also feature Iconic Auctioneers’ Collectors’ Car Sale (August 23), Motorcycle Sale (August 22) and two Automobilia Sales (August 23).
Rob Hubbard, managing director and principal auctioneer at Iconic Auctioneers, said, “This Alfa Romeo 75 is an enjoyable and quirky piece of ‘Top Gear’ history, ideal for those who appreciate characterful cars with an engaging backstory. We’re delighted to present cars like this, celebrating automotive passion at every level.”
