Today’s trucks and SUVs carry more weight than ever. Factory curb weights are higher to begin with, and once owners add steel armor, skid plates, rooftop tents, recovery gear and travel equipment, that number climbs quickly. What used to be a light weekend setup now often turns into a fully outfitted rig.

At the same time, front bumpers are no longer empty space. Radar sensors, cameras and driver-assist systems now live behind the grille and in the bumper area. That means recovery equipment has to perform under more load while working within tighter packaging constraints.

With this launch, ARB introduces a winch engineered around those conditions.

The winch is offered in two capacities to suit a range of vehicle builds:

  • 10K is well-suited for most armored midsize 4×4 vehicles and common overland configurations.
  • 12K supports heavier full-size trucks, expedition platforms and vehicles carrying significant added weight.

Selecting the appropriate capacity helps ensure efficient operation and steady pulling performance. A properly matched winch not only pulls more effectively under load, but also operates with less strain on the vehicle’s electrical system.

ARB developed this winch after identifying common pain points in traditional designs, including heat transfer, electrical complexity and performance drop-off under load. Each component was selected to improve consistency, durability and control during recovery.

At the center of any winch is an integrated motor control system. Instead of having a separate control box, like many winches on the market, the electronics are built directly into the winch housing. This keeps everything in one sealed unit, helping free up space behind the bumper, while also keeping all components safe from outside elements.

That same compact approach carries throughout the rest of the winch. It features a series-wound motor paired with a multi-stage gearbox that delivers strong, steady pulling power with controlled line speed. For heavier vehicles, maintaining consistent performance under load becomes increasingly important. The system is tuned to manage electrical draw and heat during longer recoveries, helping the winch stay predictable and reliable when conditions are tough.

Brake placement also plays a role in managing heat. On many winches, the brake sits inside the drum, which means heat from heavy pulls transfers directly to the rope. On the ARB winch, the brake is mounted within the gearbox instead. Keeping it away from the drum helps reduce heat at the rope and supports durability during longer recoveries. It also allows the line to spool out smoothly under power when it isn’t under load, making setup easier and more controlled.

Once the line is set, control matters just as much as pulling power. Because every recovery is different, the system is built to give operators flexibility. The included controller supports both wireless and wired modes. Wireless control uses a secure 2.4 GHz signal with a range of approximately 40 meters, allowing the operator to step back and maintain clear visibility during recovery. A 5-meter wired cable is included for operators who prefer a direct connection, particularly in situations where uninterrupted signal control is important.

With its integrated layout, compact footprint, and controlled performance under load, the new ARB winch platform expands ARB’s recovery lineup with a system built to match how today’s vehicles are equipped and used.
