Lexus LC Convertible Wins Design Award at Detroit Auto Show
The Lexus LC Convertible introduced at the Detroit Auto Show won a 2019 EyesOn Design Award for design excellence in exterior lighting.
The EyesOn Design Awards are the officially sanctioned design awards for NAIAS. They honor the best production and concept vehicles making their worldwide auto show debut at NAIAS. A panel of design leaders representing worldwide automotive manufacturers and transportation design chiefs from top design schools around the globe select vehicles to receive EyesOn Design Awards.
Designed by Lexus Design Division in Toyota City, Japan, the LC Convertible concept blends uniquely Japanese aesthetics with the promise of sensory satisfaction that only a convertible can provide. The LC Convertible concept stands as an aspirational halo vehicle for the entire Lexus lineup, according to the company. To reinforce its forward-thinking design, the LC Convertible concept uses exterior lighting that is both aesthetically beautiful and functionally innovative.
“The lighting elements on the LC Convertible concept are very much a part of its overall appeal. They are technically innovative, yet also very futuristic in their appearance,” said Tadao Mori, chief designer of the Lexus LC Convertible concept. “We’re very proud to see that the EyesOn Design judges recognized our efforts and awarded the best exterior lighting honor for the LC Convertible concept.”
Long, low and lean, the LC Convertible concept retains the athletic proportions of the LC coupe. It’s a shape that evolved naturally from the original LC design, yet still manages to stand on its own with a unique identity. It blends uniquely Japanese aesthetics with the promise of sensory satisfaction that only a convertible can provide, according to Lexus.
In addition to the visual appeal of the exterior sheetmetal, the LC Convertible concept attracts drivers and passengers alike with an allure of a cabin that caters to every need. From the comfort of its tailored seats to the feel of every switch and button, everything about this LC is designed to make even the most common trip feel like an occasion. Crisp white leather trim abounds while yellow accent stitching adds a pop of color without distracting from the subtle elegance of the overall design, according to Lexus.
More than just a grand tourer, the strong exterior lines of the LC Convertible concept reinforce its performance pedigree. Its short overhangs, 22-inch wheels and wide stance are all reminders of this car’s performance potential.
“A production version of this concept would be exhilarating in many different ways,” Mori-san said. “You would see its dynamic lines as you approach, hear its engine when you started it up and feel everything around you once on the road. It would engage the senses in a way that is unique and exciting every time you got behind the wheel.”
