Auction house RM Sotheby’s announces long-time employee and partner, Gord Duff, as its new president.
Since joining the company in 1998 as a shop intern, Duff has risen through the ranks, progressing from detailing and delivering cars to managing auction lineups to being responsible for some of the most significant consignments RM Sotheby’s has brought to market, the company stated in a press release announcing the appointment.
Having established himself as one of the most respected and trusted authorities in the collector car world, he’s become an integral part of RM Sotheby’s success.
“I’ve known Gord since Day One when he first started at RM and have watched him grow into a cornerstone of RM Sotheby’s success, continuously leading by example with his deep understanding of the collector car world and unrelenting work ethic,” said Rob Myers, CEO of RM Sotheby’s. “Our clients trust him implicitly, and his ability to deliver remarkable results speaks volumes about his expertise, making him the ideal leader to continue elevating our brand and strengthening our position in the global market. His experience in the market and our company and colleagues, along with his ability to build long-lasting relationships with clients worldwide, has been key to both his and RM Sotheby’s consistent success.”
Duff has been at the forefront of some of RM Sotheby’s most significant milestones, spearheading various projects including the groundbreaking and highly successful Miami 2022 boutique auction that paved the way for expansion into the greater Miami area with the newly created ModaEvents division, the company stated.
He has consigned some of the world’s best-known automotive collections including the Masterworks of Design Collection, which featured the future Pebble Beach Concours Best of Show-winning Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster.
Most recently, he consigned the Dare to Dream Collection—the highest-grossing private collection sale in the company’s history.
“RM Sotheby’s has been a second home to me for most of my adult life and I’m proud to step into the role of president,” said Duff. “I’ve worked alongside Rob Myers throughout my time here, and his belief in me from day one has been invaluable. I’ve worn many hats—shop intern, truck driver, global sales manager—and I’ll never forget the big milestones, like selling my first big car or the journey to winning Best of Show at Pebble Beach with an incredible client and our restoration team. Every day has been rewarding and unique, and I look forward to building on our success and shaping the company’s future.”
In addition to his expertise in auctions and consignments, Duff is also deeply involved in RM’s Private Sales division and RM Auto Restoration, where he has worked with some of the world’s most iconic automobiles, including the famed Figoni-bodied Duesenberg Model J Torpedo, which was judged Best of Show at Pebble Beach in 2022.
