KPI — March 2023: Recent Vehicle Recalls
448,000 2017-2020 Hondas & Acuras
Vehicles Affected: Honda is recalling model-year 2018-2019 Accord and Accord Hybrid sedans; 2017-2020 CR-V SUVs; 2019 Insight sedans; 2018-2020 Odyssey minivans; and 2019-2020 Acura RDX SUVs.
The Problem: The automaker says a manufacturing issue with the front seat belts may cause the seat belt buckle channel to interfere with the release button, thereby preventing the buckle from latching properly and increasing the risk of injury during a crash. Currently, Honda is unaware of any injury or death reports related to the issue.
The Fix: Dealers will replace both front belt buckle release buttons or the buckle assemblies for free, as necessary. Honda will begin notifying owners April 17.
2021-2023 Kia K5
Vehicles Affected: Kia is recalling nearly 189,000 model-year 2021-2023 K5s.
The Problem: The automaker suspects the side curtain airbags were installed incorrectly. If so, they could deploy improperly in the event of a crash and increase the risk of injury.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect and reinstall the side curtain airbags for free, as necessary. Kia will begin notifying owners April 7.
2023 Nissan Ariya
Vehicles Affected: Nissan is recalling more than 1,000 model-year 2023 Ariya electric vehicles.
The Problem: The automaker says a steering wheel bolt likely was installed incorrectly or tightened improperly, which could cause the steering wheel to detach from the steering column.
The Fix: Nissan is instructing owners to check their steering wheels by gently rocking them back and forth with their hands. If it feels loose, Nissan advises owners to contact their local dealer for transport and immediate repair. Dealers will replace the steering wheel bolt for free, as necessary. Owners will be notified March 30.
2022-2023 Toyota Tundra
Vehicles Affected: Toyota is recalling approximately 130,000 model-year 2022-2023 Tundra pickup trucks.
The Problem: Its tonneau cover may detach from the vehicle while driving.
The Fix: Toyota will request owners to confirm if their truck was equipped with the tonneau cover in late March. If so, the automaker will advise removing it until a remedy is available.
2018-2023 Jeep Wranglers/Gladiators
Vehicles Affected: Jeep is recalling approximately 69,000 model-year 2018-2023 Wranglers and model-year 2020-2023 Gladiators equipped with manual transmissions.
The Problem: The automaker says friction may cause the clutch pressure plate to overheat and fracture, which could result in cracks or holes in the transmission case. In addition, heated debris may be released from the damaged transmission bellhousing and cause a fire if it comes into contact with an ignition source.
The Fix: A remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent April 14.
2022 Rivian R1S/R1T
Vehicles Affected: Rivian is recalling 12,700 model year 2022 R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks.
The Problem: The automaker says a faulty automatic locking retractor sensor located in the front-passenger seat belt may report “on” when it is actually “off.” This could cause the airbag to deploy improperly or prevent it from deploying altogether.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the front-passenger seat belt system components for free, as necessary. Rivian will begin notifying owners April 8.
