KPI — January 2023: Recent Vehicle Recalls
2012-2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE/ML SUVs
Vehicles Affected: Mercedes-Benz is recalling approximately 324,000 GLE and ML-class SUVs, including 2016 GLE300D, 2016-2018 GLE350, 2016-2019 GLE400, 2016 GLE450 and 2016-2018 GLE550E; 2017-2019 AMG GLE43 and 2016-2020 AMG GLE63; 2015 ML250, 2012-2015 ML350, 2015 ML400, 2012-2014 ML550 and 2012-2015 AMG ML63.
The Problem: According to the company, water may accumulate in the wheel well of the spare tire and reach the fuel-pump control unit, which controls how much fuel is reaching the engine. If the fuel supply is interrupted, then the engine may stall and increase the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the vehicle for water intrusion, install a drain plug and replace the fuel-pump control unit for free, as necessary. Mercedes will begin notifying owners Feb. 21.
2023 Volkswagen ID.4s
Vehicles Affected: The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4s equipped with rear-wheel drive is being recalled.
The Problem: The manufacturer explained a 12-volt battery-charging cable may contact the steering column shaft, thereby causing the cable insulation to wear and possibly result in a short circuit. The short may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a fire or crash.
The Fix: As a result, owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until a proper remedy is determined. Dealers will inspect the 12-volt battery-charging cable and repair or replace it for free, as necessary. The automaker will begin notifying owners Feb. 27.
2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator/Corsair SUVs
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 101,000 model-year 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator mid-size SUVs and model-year 2020-2022 Corsair compact SUVs equipped with the Revel audio system.
The Problem: When a vehicle is started but the driver’s seat belt is not buckled, the seat belt warning system may activate the audible warning chime for an insufficient amount of time (parent-company Ford defines this as less than four seconds). An audible warning chime that does not properly alert occupants of an unbelted seat belt can increase the risk of injury during a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will update the audio control module software for free, as necessary. Ford will begin notifying owners Feb. 6.
2001-2011 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, CLK, CLS and E-Class Sedans
Vehicles Affected: Nearly 124,000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, CLK, CLS and E-Class sedans are being recalled, including 2002-2007 C230, 2001-2005 C240, 2006-2007 C280, 2001-2005 C320 and 2006-2007 C350; 2002-2004 AMG C32 and 2005-2006 AMG C55; 2003-2005 CLK320, 2006-2009 CLK350, 2003-2006 CLK500, 2007-2009 CLK550 and 2003-2005 AMG CLK55; 2006-2011 CLS550, 2006 CLS55 and 2007-2011 CLS63; 2005-2009 E320, 2006-2009 E350, 2003-2006 E500 and 2007-2009 E550; 2003-2006 AMG E55 and 2007-2009 AMG E63.
The Problem: The bonding agent used for sliding roof assemblies may have undergone reduced drying time upon application. This can result in diminished adhesion over time or an increased risk of crash.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the moonroof panel for free, as necessary. Mercedes will begin notifying owners Feb. 21.
GM Recalls 740,000 Vehicles
Vehicles Affected: GM recalls approximately 740,000 vehicles, including model-year 2021-2023 Buick Envision SUVs; model-year 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans; model-year 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV SUVs; model-year 2022-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup trucks and Suburban and Tahoe SUVs; and model-year 2022-2023 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks and Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs.
The Problem: The body control module software may fail to deactivate the daytime running lights when the headlights are on, resulting in a glare and/or increased risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will update the body control module software for free, or the issue may be resolved through an over-the-air update. GM will begin notifying owners Jan. 23.
