F1 Establishes All-Women Academy Development Series

Five teams have been confirmed for the new Formula 1 all-women Academy Series, the series announced.

Five veteran outfits in junior categories have confirmed their entries for next year with ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, Carlin, MP Motorsport and PREMA Racing fielding three cars each to form the 15-car grid, the series said.

F1 Academy will focus on young women drivers emerging in the junior ranks and aiding them in progressing to the higher levels of single seater racing such as W Series, F3, F2 and F1.

The series will subsidize the costs of each car with an approximately $160,000 contribution that each driver will match, while the teams cover the rest of the budget, and aims to position itself as a more affordable option versus comparable series.
