Recent pushbacks against electrification have led many automakers to reconsider their electric plans . A new report from Car and Driver states that Toyota, Subaru and Mazda have begun working together on shared alternative fuel engine projects.
The new report states that these brands are all working on their own power plants, with a focus on efficiency and alternative-fuel compatibility.
Toyota is reportedly working on two four cylinder engines with a 1.5L and 2.0L displacements, Mazda is working with single and double rotary engines, and Subaru is developing its next generation of boxer engine.
While the brands have not outright said how this partnership will develop, it’s likely we’ll see brands overlapping models to help keep combustion options alive.
