According to a new report from CBS, the ongoing dealer software outages from CDK Global were caused by an outside source. The dealer management software has been offline since June 19.

Many have speculated the cyber incidents were tied to attacks from various groups but it wasn’t until June 23 that CDK confirmed the attack. The software issues continue to slow sales and repairs for more than 15,000 dealers around the country.

As dealers continue to wait for systems to come back online most have pivoted to pen and paper sales. In many cases this slowed sales system is adversely affecting buyers as salespeople are unable to apply dealer rebates or special offers to these transactions.

As the issue rolls into its second week, CDK Global has stated the software is coming back online and they expect the process to take several days, rather than weeks.
