KPI — September 2023: Recent Vehicle Recalls

2019-2021 Nissan Altima/Sentra

Vehicles Affected: Nissan is recalling more than 153,300 vehicles, including 2019-2021 Altima and 2020-2021 Sentra models.

The Problem: The camera harness is damaged, which can not only impact the quality of the image, but also diminish its functionality.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the rearview camera and harness – replacing them for free, as necessary. If no damage is found, the dealer will apply protective tape and reroute the harness. Nissan will begin notifying owners Oct. 19.

2023 Audi/Porsche Models

Vehicles Affected: Audi and Porsche are recalling approximately 6,700 vehicles, including model-year 2023 E-Tron GT and RS E-Tron GT, as well as the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo.

The Problem: The automakers say the high-voltage battery in these vehicles may have an insufficient amount of sealant, which can allow liquid to accumulate in the battery. Such liquid accumulation can cause electrical arcing, thereby increasing the risk of a fire.

The Fix: Dealers will test the battery for leakage and replace it as necessary, for free. The brands will begin notifying owners Oct. 31.

2022-2023 Kia Sorenta/Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid

Vehicles Affected: Kia is recalling nearly 145,000 vehicles, including model-year 2022-2023 Sorento, Sorento Hybrid and Sorento Plug-In Hybrid SUVs.

The Problem: The mounting clips for the rearview camera may break, which can cause the camera’s image to appear improperly on the display. In addition, the defect can reduce a driver’s rear view, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera housing as necessary, for free. Kia will begin sending owner notification letters Oct. 27.

2018-2023 Ford SUVs and Vans

Vehicles Affected: Ford is recalling 169,200 vehicles, including model-year 2022-2023 Ford Transit vans and 2021 Bronco SUVs, as well as 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator and 2018-2021 Navigator SUVs.

The Problem: The backup camera or 360-degree view camera system (if thus equipped) may not display a rearview image when the vehicle is placed in reverse, thereby reducing a driver’s rear visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will simply replace the rearview camera and update the software and wiring as necessary, for free. The automaker will begin notifying owners of the risk Oct. 2.

2023 Ford Super Duty F-250/F-350

Vehicles Affected: Ford is recalling 41,500 model-year 2023 Super Duty F-250 and F-350 trucks equipped with single rear wheels and a 10.5-inch rear axle shaft.

The Problem: According to Ford, the left rear axle shaft in these vehicles may not have properly completed the heat treatment process during manufacturing and could break. A broken rear axle could cause a loss of power while driving or a rollaway when parked, both increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the rear axle shaft date code and replace the axle shaft as necessary, for free. Ford will begin notifying owners Oct. 16.
