Viper to Present Remote Start Install Skills Challenge at MasterTech Expo

Viper Remote Start & Security, a VOXX-DEI company, has partnered with Mobile Solutions to bring the 2023 MasterTech Security Challenge skills competition to the MasterTech Expo, the company announced.

Scheduled for March 5-8 in Mesa, Arizona, the MasterTech Expo offers professional education, peer-to-peer networking and a showcase of exhibitors for automotive fabricators, trimmers, designers, 12-volt technicians and business owners.

Additionally, the Viper Security Challenge will pit eight teams comprised of two participants against each other for two rounds in a bracket-style competition.

“We are thrilled to have created an exciting and competitive skills challenge that will showcase the knowledge of the industry’s best security installers as they show their stuff and compete for over $5,000 in prizes and swag” said Aron Demers, senior vice president, VOXX Electronics Corporation.

The competition will be judged by Chris Libardi, VOXX-DEI’s director of technical services & training, and Kyle Bylander, VOXX-DEI Technical Service Team lead.

Because of the format, only the first eight (8) 2-man teams (16 people) to pre-register / register on site will be able to compete.

Round 1, the preliminary round, consists of:

  • (8) Teams competing head-to-head with two vehicles
  • Teams will have 30 minutes to complete a Remote Start installation using a Viper DS4 and Install Essentials T-harness.
  • Teams will earn points based on the following topics:
    • Vehicle disassembly & reassembly (1-5) (any damage to vehicle will result in forfeit)
    • Teamwork & Efficiency (1-5)
    • Install cleanliness – module placement and harness routing (1-5)
    • Overall functionality & completion time (1-5)
    • Total possible points 20
  • The two teams that earn the most points will move on to the final round on day 2.

Round 2, the final round, consists of:

  • Each team will complete a full Remote Start installation using a Viper DS4 and Hardwire kit within a 3.5-hour time limit
  • Teams will earn points based on the following topics:
    • Vehicle disassembly & reassembly (1-5) (any damage to vehicle will result in forfeit)
    • Overall functionality & completion time (1-5)
    • Teamwork & Efficiency (1-5)
    • Install cleanliness – module placement and harness routing (1-5)
    • Issue Resolution/Troubleshooting (1-5)
    • Total possible points 25
