The Great Cannonball Boom

While most people hunkered down in their homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a handful of Cannonball Runners took advantage of conditions that will likely never be matched.

Empty roads sparked a frenzy of Cannonball Run attempts, with numerous groups and individuals setting new records for the cross-country run, only to watch those records be topped again and again. In total, the previous record from 2013 was beaten in seven instances in just the past several months.

GQ Magazine recently spent some time with some of the record holders, recounting several of the record-breaking trips and digging deeper into what pushes these daring drivers to make the mad dash from New York to Los Angeles.
