The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge’s fourth event of the season was held March 24 at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas.
A total of seven schools from Texas and Oklahoma, fielding nine teams, competed. Five teams made the cut and will have a chance to win thousands of dollars in college scholarships at the 2018 Dual National Championship Playoffs coming up in November and December at the SEMA Show and the PRI Show.
To qualify for the Dual National Championship, a team must finish disassembling and reassembling a small-block Chevrolet engine in less than 33 minutes, including penalties.
In first place was Team Custom Automotive Network (CAN) of Eastern Oklahoma County Tech Center in Choctaw, Oklahoma with a time of 19:36. In second place came Team PROFORM, with a time of 27:40. In third place was Team Comp Cams of Pontotoc Tech Center in Ada, Texas, with a time of 29:14. Fourth place went to Team Vibrant Performance with a time of 30:46. Hereford High School out of Hereford, Texas had two teams participate, and both qualified.
The fifth-place qualifier was a first-time participant-Team PRW of J. W. Nixon High School in Laredo, Texas, with a time of 32:05. “This is a great program that is really going to benefit my students,” said Abel Sanchez, the team’s instructor. “One of my students is a senior and going to attend UTI and the scholarship is really going to help him out. The team comes from a low social economic background and the HROT program will benefit students for years to come.
