Signature Autosports has revealed a coachbuilt Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing-inspired coupe that captures the spirit of the 300 SL through a more modern lens. Finished in deep blue over a warm tan diamond-stitched interior, the build blends vintage Gullwing presence with Mercedes-Benz-derived engineering, modern drivability and everyday usability, company officials stated in a press release.
This modern interpretation is shaped with reverence for the original 300 SL, while built around a more contemporary platform. From its long, sculpted front fenders and signature side vents to its rounded rear haunches and unmistakable roofline, the design speaks directly to the Gullwing legend without feeling frozen in time, noted the release.
The Bentley Sequin Blue Metallic exterior finish gives the car a rich, elegant presence, while polished trim, round headlamps, three-pointed-star-inspired front detailing, and wide performance wheels create a look that blends the classic grand tourer with a modern performance coupe.
Mercedes-Benz DNA
Underneath its coachbuilt bodywork, the coupe is based on a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire foundation—a vehicle closely related to the first-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK R170 architecture. The build also benefits from Mercedes-Benz-derived engineering, including a 3.2L M112 E32 SOHC 18-valve V-6 engine paired with a 5-speed 5G-Tronic automatic transmission.
The original 300 SL was about presence, performance, and the sense that every detail served a larger purpose. This coachbuilt example follows that philosophy in a more modern, accessible way, the company said. The compact proportions give it a planted, athletic stance. The wide wheels and low ride height add visual aggression. The front splitter, side vents and rear haunches give the car a purposeful edge without losing the elegance of the Gullwing.

Inside, the tan interior provides a contrast against the deep blue exterior. Diamond-stitched upholstery covers the seats and door panels, with the warm Golden Brown Merino leather continuing across the dashboard, steering wheel and surrounding trim, creating an inviting grand-touring environment.
