Shipping Industry in ‘Crisis Mode’ as California Ports Face Backlog

A historic backlog of ships at the Port of Long Beach is sending the shipping industry into “crisis mode,” Executive Director Mario Cordero told Business Insider earlier this week.

While moving a record number of containers this year, the 60-plus ships currently anchored near the Port of Long Beach will still likely be waiting until the end of October or November before being unloaded, according to Business Insider, impacting nearly every corner of the economy, including the raw materials, electronics and automotive industries.
